When Is the best time to hike in Madeira?

The truth is: Madeira is a year-round hiking destination.
But each season offers something unique:

Spring (March–May)

Blooming flowers, fresh waterfalls and perfect temperatures — ideal for levadas like 25 Fontes and Caldeirão Verde.

Summer (June–September)

Longer days, coastal views and warm mornings. Great for sunrise hikes such as Pico do Areeiro.

Autumn (October–November)

Golden light, fewer crowds and mild weather. Forest paths become especially beautiful.

Winter (December–February)

Crisper air and dramatic clouds around the peaks — but weather can change quickly.

No matter when you visit, Madeira offers unforgettable self-guided hikes — just remember to check the forecast before you go.
